  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup (200 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter by melting it over medium heat until golden brown and aromatic. Let cool.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together brown butter and sugars until smooth; add eggs one at a time.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture, followed by old-fashioned oats.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets.
  6. Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
