Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 package (0.25 oz) dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Heat buttermilk, butter, and sugar in a pot until simmering. Stir in baking soda and let cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine lukewarm water with yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Whisk the yeast mixture into the cooled buttermilk mixture.
  4. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt, then combine with the liquid mixture to form a soft dough.
  5. Knead for about 2 minutes until smooth, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Divide dough into 12 balls and place in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled (about 1.5 hours).
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F and bake rolls for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
