Description

Indulge in the comforting flavors of Carne Guisada, a traditional Mexican beef stew that brings warmth and satisfaction to any meal. This easy-to-follow recipe features tender chunks of slow-cooked chuck steak simmered in a rich, savory gravy made from fresh vegetables and aromatic spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 pounds chuck steak (cubed)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 1 large bell pepper (chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 large tomatoes (diced)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a heavy pot over medium heat. Add onions and cook until translucent, then add garlic.
  2. Brown the cubed chuck steak on all sides. Add chopped bell peppers and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, cooking for an additional minute before adding diced tomatoes.
  4. Mix in the flour and cook briefly, then pour in beef broth and season with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder.
  5. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours until the beef is tender. Stir occasionally and add water if needed.
