  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (112 g) unsalted butter, very softened
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) heavy cream
  • 2 chai tea bags
  • 1/2 cup (112 g) unsalted butter, very softened
  • 1 cup (220 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/3 cup (116 g) honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp (84 g) unsalted butter, very softened
  • 6 oz (170 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup (97 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • Pinch of cloves

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to 110°F and mix with yeast and sugar; let it foam.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, salt, and spices together.
  3. Combine the yeast mixture with eggs and vanilla into the flour mixture; knead until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Prepare the filling by steeping chai tea bags in heavy cream; mix with butter, brown sugar, spices, honey, vanilla, and salt.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, roll tightly, and cut into 12 pieces.
  7. Let rolls rise again until nearly doubled (30 minutes), then bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Prepare frosting by mixing butter and cream cheese; add powdered sugar and spices before spreading over warm rolls.
