Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (for the skillet)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 ounces sliced cremini mushrooms
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Roasted broccoli

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko, egg, ketchup, mustard, oregano, and salt until combined. Shape into four oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually add beef stock while whisking to avoid lumps.
  4. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and mushrooms; simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Return patties to the skillet; cover and cook for another 10 minutes or until fully cooked (160°F internal temperature).
  6. Serve over mashed potatoes or with your favorite sides.
