- 1 stick unsalted butter, diced
- 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons Kahlua, or other coffee liqueur
- 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- Ground cinnamon, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt together diced unsalted butter and unsweetened chocolate until smooth.
- In a mixing bowl, combine melted mixture with granulated sugar, then whisk in eggs one at a time.
- Stir in instant espresso powder and salt before folding in flour until just combined.
- Pour batter into a lined baking pan and bake for about 20 minutes.
- For the Kahlua buttercream, cream room temperature butter with powdered sugar, then mix in heavy cream and Kahlua.
