- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, vanilla extract, and optional orange zest; mix until smooth.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.
- Divide the dough into two disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cutouts on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
