- 750g ground beef
- 1.2kg potatoes
- 165ml warm milk
- 30g butter (for mash)
- 20g grated parmesan
- 500ml beef stock
- 40g all-purpose flour
- 55g tomato paste
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté minced garlic, chopped carrot, and celery until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking up clumps as needed.
- Stir in flour, then add tomato paste and red wine (or stock). Pour in beef stock and add bouillon cube, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes until thickened.
- Boil peeled and cubed potatoes until soft (about 15-20 minutes). Drain and mash with warm milk, butter, and salt until smooth.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a casserole dish, layer the meat filling evenly and spread mashed potatoes on top with a fork for texture.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown; broil for an additional 2–3 minutes if desired.
