Ingredients

Scale
  • to 3 pounds baby back ribs
  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2½ teaspoons fresh cracked black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all dry rub ingredients: light brown sugar, granulated sugar, onion powder, kosher salt, smoked paprika, black pepper, ground mustard, cumin, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Remove the membrane from the ribs for tenderness.
  4. Wrap the ribs in heavy-duty aluminum foil on a baking sheet.
  5. Generously apply the spice rub to both sides of the ribs.
  6. Seal foil tightly and bake for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  7. Increase oven temperature to broil. Prepare barbecue sauce mixture by whisking together barbecue sauce and light brown sugar.
  8. Open foil carefully to avoid steam burns; spread sauce over ribs.
  9. Broil for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until caramelized.
  10. Let rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
