  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups kale (chopped)
  • 2 cups tortellini

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook the ground sausage and diced onion over medium-high heat until the sausage is browned and onions are softened (8-10 minutes). Drain excess grease, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate raw taste. Mix in seasonings: dried basil, oregano, cayenne, hot sauce, mustard powder, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Gradually pour in chicken broth while scraping the bottom of the pot to combine flavors. Slowly stir in heavy cream and bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to simmer and add chopped kale and tortellini; cook for about 3-5 minutes until heated through.
  5. Season with salt to taste before serving.
