Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 cups water
  • 6 meaty smoked turkey necks (or ham hocks)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
  • 2 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
  • 1 lb small to medium red potatoes (quartered)
  • 2 lbs string beans (stemmed and halved crosswise)
  • Seasoning salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Broth: In a large stockpot over high heat, combine water and turkey necks. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low boil, cover, and simmer for 2 hours.
  2. Add Aromatics: Check broth for water level; add enough to cover turkey necks. Stir in onion, garlic, and bouillon powder. Season to taste.
  3. Incorporate Vegetables: Add potatoes and string beans; cover and cook until tender (about 45 minutes). Stir in black pepper.
  4. Shred Turkey Meat: Remove turkey necks once cooled; shred meat back into the pot discarding skin and bones.
  5. Serve: Ladle into bowls with beans, potatoes, broth, and shredded meat.
