- 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1/4 tsp salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
- In one bowl, mix the sifted flour, black cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, buttermilk, hot coffee, canola oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually combine with dry ingredients.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
- For the blackberry compote: simmer fresh blackberries with sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, water, and cornstarch until thickened.
- Prepare frosting by creaming together softened cream cheese and butter with powdered sugar and black cocoa powder until smooth.
